Soul tracks

(August 4, 2022) 2020 was quite the year for singer/songwriter/musician John Carey, as he nominated for Top Instrumentalist on the SoulTracks Readers Choice Awards.  His production and guitar work behind Ronnie Moss from The Spinners on “Keep on Stepping” was a perfect soulfully sweet collaboration match.  Then he was there for U.K. vocalist Ania Garvey on the funky dance jam, “Follow Me,” where Carey dropped bluesy guitar delicacies.  And yes, this Chicago native possesses plenty of smooth jazz chops with several releases, including the 2021 release, The Journey Home.

On his latest offering Soul of the City, Carey expands upon his smooth jazz zone by digging into his Caribbean rhythms, paying proper tribute to guitar hero Carlos Santana and joining Garvey on the summertime bouncer “You’re Gonna Get Next to Me.”  From Soul of the City, SoulTracks welcomes back Carey for “Come Into My Dreams,” riding on a light percussive old school, reverb frosted soul soundtrack. Carey also spotlights his creamy, sensual baritone vocals as well as playing all the instruments.  The brass adds a cool texture within the guitar dusted dance grooves.

For those who feast on love fantasies - tossing in the candlelight, favorite-colored roses and seductive music, “Come Into My Dreams” is the place let it all hang out.  Take a listen.
